Not The End Of The World

I did some music sketching for “Not the End of the World” early in the morning…

First, before my eyes were even open…

…And then when I’d gotten myself together enough to get to a piano.

A lyric sketch for the moment when Addie is freaking out about impending tests and everything else… and Kelly reassures her.

KELLY
So let’s say we fail
We get kicked out of school
We go somewhere else, or we don’t.
It’s not the end of the world

We somehow get to college
Or we somehow get a job
Or we don’t.
It’s not the end of the world

Everything keeps going
You pick up and keep moving
You do as much as you can do
And it’s kinda okay.
It’s not the end of the world
It may feel like a big deal now
But trust me… it isn’t.

ADDIE
It isn’t?

KELLY
It’s not the end of the world.

One Comment:

  1. When I was setting the lyric, I discovered that the second A is one line shorter than the first, which was problematic musically. So I added a line: “We some how make a living” before “or we don’t.” That made the musical phrasing and the harmonic progression work out much better, at least at that moment.
